METIS Physically Based Rendering (PBR) Scanners

METIS scanners have been employing a range of photogrammetric techniques since 2013. These techniques have enabled the scanners to capture not just colour information, but a wealth of additional valuable data.

Today, METIS scanners have the capability to produce standardised PBR maps. These maps can be seamlessly utilised by a wide array of popular 3D rendering software including Blender, Lumion, KeyShot, 3DS MAX, Cinema 4D, Substance, Unreal, Browzwear, and more.

METIS software automatically generates Base Color, Roughness, Normal, Displacement, Alpha, Opacity and Metalness maps for a fully optimised Metallic-Roughness workflow.

You can also export all PBR maps in the U3M file format (Unified 3D Material), which makes it easier to work with the material in any rendering software that supports U3M.

METIS PBR Workflow

At METIS Australia, we fully utilise Physically Based Rendering (PBR), a core technology initially developed by the film and videogame industry, for achieving photorealistic renderings. However, its applications have since transcended these industries. Presently, PBR plays a significant role in most industries across the globe, which showcase the endless possible applications of this advanced technology.

Let’s take a look at the METIS PBR Workflow:

  • Step 1: Completely automated SuperScan

    • Scan large originals at the highest resolution.
    • Perfect for woods, ceramics, stones, wallpapers, fabrics, leather, and many other materials.
  • Step 2: Evaluate PBR maps

    • Evaluate the PBR maps in a photorealsitic rendering environment with the METIS to Blender Preview Interface.
    • Directly from the METIS software, you can preview the outcome and if required adjust the maps before exporting them.
  • Step 3: Generating PBR maps

    • Generating the selected PBR maps with the METIS Batch Process tool.
    • With the presets that can be optimised to your render software, MAP creation becomes a breeze.

What are the potential applications for PBR renderings?

  • Catalogues and other types of printed material.
  • Videos for marketing purposes.
  • Websites and e-commerce stores.
  • Previews of materials for 3D CAD projects.
  • VR (Virtual Reality)
